Cat Collective

Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is the Cat Collective’s mission?
We are a Dubai-based rescue initiative dedicated to giving street cats a second chance at life. Our mission is to rescue abandoned and stray cats, provide them with medical care, and find them permanent, loving homes. We believe every cat deserves a sofa to sleep on! 🛋️💖
How can I help if I can’t foster or adopt? 💖
You can be a hero in many ways! You can volunteer for airport runs, help us manage our social media, or donate toward life-saving medical treatments. Simply sharing our "Adoptable" posts is a huge help in finding these cats the homes they deserve! 📣
I found a cat in my neighborhood. Can you take it? 🆘
As a foster-based rescue, we don't have a shelter, so we rely on available foster homes. If we are full, we can offer "Community Fostering" support—we’ll help you with the medical prep and promotion, while you provide the temporary safety the cat needs until we find their forever family. 🤝
Do you return cats back to the streets? 🚫🛣️
No. Unlike many programs, our goal is to get cats off the streets for good. Once a cat enters our care, we work tirelessly to rehabilitate them and find them a dedicated indoor home where they will be safe, loved, and pampered. 🏠👑
How does the 2026 UAE Registration work?
In compliance with current law, all adoptions include a legal ownership transfer. Once your adoption is confirmed:

💎 Dubai
We register the microchip with Dubai Municipality under your Emirates ID.

💎 Abu Dhabi
We facilitate the mandatory Tamm App registration to ensure you avoid the Dh1,000 non-compliance fine.
Why should I choose a "Collective" cat over a pet shop?
Beyond the ethics, every cat in our collective is a "Premium Biological Unit"—fully tech-checked (microchipped), standard-maintained (vetted), and socially "vetted" by our foster network.

But the real difference? You are literally saving a life. While pet shops operate on a factory model, we operate on a rescue mission.

By choosing a Collective cat, you aren't just getting a pet; you are providing a "soul-reset" for a feline that truly needs it. You join a tribe that provides 24/7 support even after the move-in, ensuring that your "Hero Glow" lasts a lifetime.

Be the Reason a Cat Purrs Tonight

Every adoption through the Collective is a life saved from the streets. We handle the logistics, the medicine, and the 2026 legalities—you provide the couch and the love.

Fostering

What does it mean to be a foster parent?
Fostering is the vital bridge between the street and a forever home. You provide the love and a safe space; we cover all the costs, including medical care, food, cat litter, and even toys! 🧸 It’s a rewarding role that allows a cat to decompress and learn what it’s like to be part of a family. 🛋️
Can I foster if I'm on a tight budget?
Absolutely! We call this "All the Purrs, None of the Bills."
As a Foster Guardian, you provide the home and the love, and the Collective handles the rest:
🥣 All food and fresh litter supplied.
🩺 100% vet-paid medical care.
🚐 All transport to/from appointments is sorted by us.
What if I fall in love with my foster cat?
It happens to the best of us! This is known as a "Foster Fail" (the best kind of failure). While we love it when fosters adopt, please remember that you will still need to complete the formal Adoption Application and pay the Medical Package fee to transfer the legal ownership to your name.
How long does a foster commitment last? ⏳
Fostering usually lasts until the cat is adopted! This can be a few weeks or a few months. We always appreciate long-term fosters who can stay with a cat until their big "Gotcha Day," but we also sometimes need short-term "emergency fosters". 🗓️
Do I need experience to foster? 🎓
Not at all! We welcome first-time cat owners. We’ll guide you on how to set up your "safe room" and how to help your foster cat adjust. We are with you every step of the way! 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️
What if my foster cat doesn't get along with my own pets? 🐕
Don't worry! We recommend a "slow introduction" process. We’ll teach you how to use scent swapping and gradual visual introductions to ensure a peaceful environment for everyone. 🚪🐾

Adopting

What are the requirements for adopting? 📝
Adopters must be 21+ years old. For safety, apartments must have secured windows and balconies (cat-proofing). Most importantly, we look for families who view a cat as a lifetime member of the family—15-20 years of love! 🔒🏢
Is there an adoption fee? 💸
Yes. This fee is paid directly to the veterinary clinic and helps cover a portion of the cat’s medical prep (vaccinations, microchipping, and sterilization), at least partially. For international adoptions to Europe, the adopter is responsible for covering the flight ticket. This allows us to keep our rescue cycle going so we can save the next cat waiting for their chance. 💉
Why is there a "Medical Package" fee for adoption?
We operate on a professional service model to ensure our mission is sustainable.

🛡️ Instead of a "price for a cat," you are paying for a Premium Health Starter Pack.

🎁 This partly covers:
- Full vaccinations, deworming, and FIV/FeLV testing. 🩺💉
- Spaying/Neutering and microchipping. ✂️🛰️
- The issuance of a legal travel-ready passport. 🛃✈️

This fee is paid directly to our partner veterinary clinic, ensuring 100% transparency. 💎✨

Note for European Adoptions: For cats traveling to Europe, the adopter is responsible for covering the cost of the flight ticket.
What is the "Trial Period"? 🐾
We want to make sure it’s a perfect match! We offer a one-week trial period so you can see how the cat settles into your home and fits your lifestyle before the adoption is made official. 🏠😻
Can I adopt if I live outside of Dubai?
Yes! We are a "Global Delivery" tribe. Whether you are in another Emirate or moving abroad, we specialize in Feline Logistics.

We can handle the relocation paperwork and transport to ensure your new bestie arrives safely at your door.

Note for International Adoptions: For adoptions to Europe, while we handle the logistics and paperwork, the adopter is responsible for covering the cost of the flight ticket. ✈️🌍
